Day #10

After a relatively short drive from Colorado to Utah, you arrive near Christmas City, Utah.

Christmas City, Utah | JacobBarlow.com

Alright, that was a nice visit. Doesn't seem like much is going on in this old-timey, defunct mining town. Let's move on...

I'm just teasing you! Although Christmas City's days of operation are long gone, it is an incorporated section of the larger, very chic city of Provo.

Provo is a happening place and a cultural hub. It has a booming Arts community, with tons of skilled artists, actors, craftsmen and vendors. The dining and resorts are amazing, and you can't compete with its outdoor offerings of snowboarding, skiing, hiking, climbing, and all other sorts of sports and leisure.

The state of Utah is a major Christmas destination at large. Many movies with winter scenes, ice skating, and other snow sport activities are filmed throughout Utah. Check out all the movies filmed at Utah here.

Utah's Christmas Food

Crepes

Utah, another state that prizes breakfast! For our visit to Christmas City, let's enjoy some crepes. If you watched Talladega Nights, you'll know those are essentially thin pancakes. However, they are much more versatile, often filled with whipped creams and fruits. Let's keep things simple with this delish.com recipe, though.

crepe

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • fresh fruit for serving
  • powdered sugar for serving

Directions:

  • In a large mixing bowl whisk the flour, sugar and salt until combined. Then create a well with flour and add the eggs. Gradually pour in milk, whisking to combine after each addition. Let batter stand at room temperature until slightly bubbly on top, 15 to 20 minutes.
  • In a small skillet over medium heat, melt butter. About 1/4 cup at a time, drop batter evenly onto pan, swirling it to evenly coat.
  • Cook 2 minutes, then flip and cook 1 minute more. Repeat with remaining batter.
  • Serve crepes warm with fresh fruit and powdered sugar.
