Training and Engaging Student Workers

This libguide accompanies a Slides/PowerPoint presentation to further understanding of how to effectively train, motivate, and engage student workers.

I follow the steps below to identify work needs, then develop a scaffolded approach to training student workers who eventually can work efficiently, independently, and assume leadership responsibilities in preparation for their next steps beyond undergraduate academia:

  1. Identify how work studies can contribute

  2. Develop training

  3. Apply the training, track the progress

  4. Emphasize communication and collaboration

  5. Drive motivation and engagement

  6. Provide opportunities for student leadership

  7. Acknowledgement

Additional goals in this training are to demonstrate the effective use of technology to guide training, work, and communicate effectively.

Ultimately, this training aims to help work study trainers and supervisors in academia exceed departmental goals by properly utilizing their work study team.
