Kent Falls State Park is a public recreation area located in the town of Kent, Connecticut, within the Litchfield Hills region of the southern Berkshires, that is part of the Appalachian Trail. The state park is home to Kent Falls, a series of waterfalls on Falls Brook, a tributary of the Housatonic River. The falls drop 250 feet in under a quarter mile! This state park is a beautiful spot for a picnic, a day hike, or just a stop along the way to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
After taking in a view of the waterfalls, take a short hike around the area looking at the geology of the area. The park is filled with natural marble. The water has eroded the softer rock creating the beautiful falls and cascades, as well as potholes created by smaller pebbles caught in the water currents.
Garnets are the state mineral of Connecticut. Look in the weathered rock along the trails to see these beautiful stones in their natural state.
