OAER Framework for Collaborative Identification

Based on presentation by Heather Tompkins and Sara Parme ACA Summit 2023.

Using Collaboration to get started

Moving courses to OAER resources can be overwhelming.  Collaboration gives you people to discuss what should become OAER and how it can work into your existing instructional materials.

Contact Your Librarian - Librarians have been trained in finding resources.  In the last several years, they have been exploring OER platforms and collections.  They have also been building e-book collections that allow for unlimited simultaneous users.  They can help you!

Share Your Syllabus - Sharing your syllabus and course objectives with your librarian can help them limit results to items that best meet your needs.  A search for "psychology" for example will result in many choices, but you do not need a resource on Abnormal Psychology if your course is Developmental Psychology.  Share this prior to a meeting with your librarian.

Setup A Meeting - Set up a meeting time with your librarian that they can reserve to focus just on you.  Be familiar with and prepared to answer some of the questions in Step 2.
