North Africa

Egyptian classical music is an iconic musical tradition of North Africa.

 

East Africa

Taarab is a primary musical tradition in East Africa, combining African beats with elements of Arabic and Indian music.

 

Central African Music

Banda is a folk music common to Central Africa that incorporates a unique instrument - the Ongo - which is made from an antelope horn!

 

South Africa

Marabi is a musical style often associated to South Africa. You'll notice the heavy 1920's Western jazz influence.

 

West Africa

A popular musical style associated with West Africa is Calypso. Although Calypso's origins are Caribbean, it is a result of the West African slave trade with distinct African roots.
