France has been a world leader in visual arts for many years. In the 19th century, Paris came to be seen as the world capital of art. Many of us are familiar with the names of French artists such as Monet, Cezanne, Renoir, Matisse, Degas, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Chagall, and Seurat. One of the most famous art museums is The Louvre in Paris. It is the world's largest art museum and is also a historic monument in Paris. It is the world's most visited museum, averaging 15,000 visitors per day. While we will explore several art museums in our tour of Paris, touring the Louvre will give you a great opportunity to spend time on a variety of art styles and time periods.
