Helps following an in person instruction session

Using the KCU Journal Search Tool

You may find that you have one article that has the exact information that you need.  You may want to search within that journal issue to see if there are more articles that pertain to your topic.  You can do this by using our Journal Search Tool.

Follow these directions:

  • Go to the Journal Search page
  • Type in the title of the journal that you would like to search in
    • Example #1: Classroom Teaching
      • Click on the title
      • In the description of the journal, look to see if it is peer-reviewed
      • This journal is not peer-reviewed and you would not want to use it for this assignment
    • Example #2: Journal of Educational Research
      • Click on the title
      • In the description of the journal, look to see if it is peer-reviewed
      • This journal is peer-reviewed and can be used for this assignment
      • Above the title click on the link that says "Search within this publication"
      • Type in your search term - 'classroom management'
      • Using the sidebar on the left, click on Peer-reviewed and set your date to 2013-2020.  There are a total of 5 articles available for you to consider on this topic in this particular journal.

Using the Journal Search Tool for your Article Review Research Assignment

Journal searching is not something that most of us do frequently.  However, it can save you time and provide you with excellent results.  Print step-by-steps like the one above are very helpful, but sometimes it is still nice to watch a video to see how all of the steps work together.  Watch this quick video of how we demonstrated this tool during the library instruction session.  As always, feel free to contact a librarian for additional assistance!
