NUR 290 - Finding Peer-reviewed journals

Using databases to locate peer-reviewed articles

EBSCO Databases

EBSCO Databases

Many of the nursing databases use the EBSCO platform.  Follow these directions to set up options for searching on the Advanced search page.

1. Open a Nursing database such as CINAHL Complete.  Be sure that you are on the "Advanced Search" screen.

2. Type in your search term.

3. Scroll down to the "Search Options" box

4. Select "Peer-reviewed" in the right hand column

5.  OPTIONAL: You may also want to select "First author is a nurse" further down that column since you are focusing on nursing perspective.

6.  Scroll back up to the top and click on "Search"

Watch the embedded video from EBSCO to see the process.

Non-EBSCO Databases

  • There are other databases available for searching under the "Nursing" heading on KCU's Database page.
  • Look for ways to limit settings so that only peer-reviewed articles are available.
  • Some databases will only provide peer-reviewed articles.  JSTOR is an example of this kind of database.  It has many publications that pertain to the health sciences.
