Kentucky Christian University's Young Library - Virtual Kentucky Outdoors Vacation

August Vacation Guide - A Bluegrass Summer

It’s time for your third adventure of the year!

You’ve traveled to Florida twice. You’ve sunbathed on sandy beaches, explored wonderful museums, splashed with dolphins at aquariums, cast spells with Harry Potter, and had the grand tour of the House of Mouse.

This time, we’re going to do things a bit different. Let’s take the car off the highway and get countryfied for the next 7 days, exploring some of the greatest state and national parks Kentucky has to offer. You’ll walk, crawl, climb, jump, swim, paddle and gallop across the Bluegrass. You’ll go deep into caves, through thick woods, over the most refreshing summer waters, and atop the highest hills Kentucky has to offer. Hot summer days will follow warm summer nights. Let’s swap the king-size bed for a sleeping bag. We will trade our roof for a canopy of stars, our ceiling fans for a gentle breeze, and the white noise of our TV’s for nature’s symphony of hoots, chirps, and croaks.

Here's a preview of the adventure we will take:

If you ain’t scared off by the prospect of some sweat and dirt, jump on over to day 1 to gather all your supplies and get in the right mood to go exploring, with some great books, music, and TV recommendations. Don’t bring your school shoes, your good jeans, or your summer dress on this trip…they’ll just get ruined.
