This guide provides quick reference for information covered in your Online Personal Librarian Meeting

ADDITIONAL CATALOG FEATURES

Course Reserves are items that your course instructor has placed in the library for you to use.  These items are often used to complete assignments or to enhance instruction.  

To locate items placed on Reserve:

  • Go to the Online Catalog
  • Hold the mouse over the word "Reserves" on the top left side of the screen above the black bar
  • Click on "Search Course Instructor" in the drop down menu
  • Type in your course instructor's last name
  • Select the course your are taking
  • Your list of Reserve items should appear

To check out a reserve item:

  • For  Online students: 
    • Send an email to nenders@kcu.edu with the title and the pages that you would like to have scanned and emailed to you.
    • Include your name, your ID number and your email address
  • For On-Campus students:
    • Go to the Circulation desk in the front of the library
    • Tell the person at the desk the title of the book that you would like and the name of the professor that has placed it on reserve.
    • The book will be checked out to you for in-library use only

 

Every KCU student is provided with a KCU e-mail address and a KCU ID number.  This information is used to create a library account for each student.  

Library account information is used to Identify you as a KCU student which will allow you to access library resources.

You will be asked to provide library account information:

  • when you go to the Online Catalog and click on "Your Library Account" on the top right of the screen
    • This will tell you how many books you have checked out
    • When the books are due back to the library
    • Allows you to renew your books online one time
  • when you find an article in a database that is not available in full text.  You will need to request an Interlibrary Loan.  When you are filling out the form for the request, you will need your library account information
  • when you are off campus and want to access the library resources to complete assignments
    • You can click on a database or an ebook
    • The system will ask for a Name/Username and a Barcode/Password

You can determine your library account information by using the following guidelines:

  • Your Name/Username is your last name only with the first letter capitalized.
    • Example: Smith
  • Your Barcode/Password is the letters "kc" followed by your ID number.  
    • Example: kc123456

Please contact the library if you cannot get your library account information to work.

 

 

 

Young Library has Streaming Video available for KCU student, faculty, and staff use.

To access Streaming video as a database:

  • Go to the library Database page
  • Scroll to the bottom of the list
  • Under the heading "Streaming Video", click on "Alexander Street Press"

To access Streaming video through our catalog:

  • Go to the library Online Catalog
  • Under the "Search" button click on "Advanced Search"
  • Type in your search term 
  • In the Add Limits area locate the box that is labeled "Material type"
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the box and select "Streaming Film"
  • Return to the top of the screen and click on "Submit" located under the search boxes.
  • Once you have selected an item from your results list, click on the line below the table that says "Click here to view this resource online from Alexander Street Press"

Streaming Video can be used to review material for exams, expand classroom instruction, and to enhance presentations.  Please contact a librarian if you need help utilizing this resource.
