This guide will give you an overview of Young Library resources at Kentucky Christian University and how to use them to complete assignments

What is Interlibrary Loan

Inter Library Loan

  • Some articles in the library databases are available as full-text articles.
    • PDF articles look exactly like the journal/magazine pages
    • HTML articles will be the content of the article but not the format of the article - it might not have page numbers or graphics.
  • Articles that are not available in full text can be requested through Inter Library Loan (ILL).  This means we ask other libraries to send the article to us.  This service is free of charge to KCU students.
  • You fill out the form. Once the article arrives, we will email it directly to you.

Interlibrary Loan - Filling out the form

Making the Request

1. Articles that are not available.

  • Under the article on your results list, it will say "Request Item Through Interlibrary Loan".
  • Click on this link.  The form will fill in all of the information on the article.  You will need to fill in the boxes on the form that are pink
    • For the box marked "Date": Your date will need to be 10 days from the day you are submitting your request.  This gives us time to request it from other libraries.
    • Your email address should be your KCU email address.
    • Please include your Patron ID.  This will be "kc" plus your ID number.
  • Click on "Submit" and your request will be sent to the library.

2. If you are using the Database list some articles will say "Check Young Library Holdings on this title".

  • From the citation on the results list, write down the journal title, volume number, issue number, and the year it was published.
  • Click on the link to check library holdings.  This will take you to the library catalog.
  • Under the publication information it will say "Library has" and list the first issue in print in the library and the last issue that is available.
  • If your issue number falls into the range, then you need to contact a librarian and ask them to scan the article for you.
  • If it does not fall into the range, you will need to email as much of the entry as possible to a KCU librarian.
