Nursing Resources

This guide will tell which resources are available for your information needs to complete your assignments. It will also tell you how to identify and locate the resources

Using the Advanced Search Screen

There is an Advanced Search screen option located at the top left of the basic Discovery search screen.  This will allow you to search for multiple terms and set parameters for your search.  

Notice that on the right side of your screen, you are searching in WorldCat.org, which means you will find many results for your searches.  If you would like to search in only one database, you will need to click on the drop down arrow next to all Databases to select your single database to use.

 

ADDITIONAL CATALOG FEATURES

Course Reserves are items that your course instructor has placed in the library for you to use.  These items are often used to complete assignments or to enhance instruction.  

To locate items placed on Reserve:

  • Go to the Online Catalog/ Discovery System
  • Click on Course Reserves at the top of the screen
  • Type in your course name or course instructor in the Search box
  • Select the course you are taking
  • Your list of Reserve items should appear

To check out a reserve item:

  • Go to the Circulation desk in the front of the library
  • Tell the person at the desk the title of the book that you would like and the name of the professor that has placed it on reserve if the item is a print item.
  • The book will be checked out to you for in-library use only

 

Every KCU student is provided with a KCU e-mail address and a KCU ID number.  This information is used to create a library account for each student.  

Library account information is used to Identify you as a KCU student which will allow you to access library resources.

You will be asked to provide library account information:

  • when you go to the Online Catalog/ Discovery System and click on "My Account" on the top right of the screen
    • This will tell you how many books you have checked out and their due dates
    • Items that you have requested
    • Any fees that are owed
    • Your Borrowing history - which items you have checked out in the past
    • Your Search activity
    • Your Saved Searches
    • Your Saved items
    • Your Saved Lists

Please contact the library if you cannot get your library account information to work.

 

Young Library has Streaming Video available for KCU student, faculty, and staff use.

To access Streaming video as a database:

  • Go to the library Database page
  • Scroll to the bottom of the list
  • Under the heading "Streaming Video", click on "Alexander Street Press"

To access Streaming video through our catalog:

  • Go to the library Online Catalog / Discovery System
  • Type in your search term 
  • Use your filters on the left side of your screen on the results list and select "eVideo" for your filter

Streaming Video can be used to review material for exams, expand classroom instruction, and to enhance presentations.  Please contact a librarian if you need help utilizing this resource.
