Information About Our Electronic Books In Our Online Catalog

Many of the electronic books available in our online catalog are available for download to your computer! Once you have selected a title and downloaded it, it will be available to view for a set period of time. Usually this will be 7 days.  To access these items, you must have:

  1. Either Adobe Reader downloaded to your computer or a reader program downloaded to your mobile device.
  2.  You must have created a My EBSCOhost account. If you have a research folder from College 101, you have done this.

Young Library ebooks can also be downloaded to your tablets! You will need a reader program such as Bluefire Reader. You must download this to your tablet first before downloading the ebook offline.

Remember when you download an ebook from our catalog, it will download directly to the device you are using.

To Download Adobe Reader:

  • Click on the link for Adobe Reader.
  • Click off the green check mark next to “Include in your download” so that you do not acquire another Google Toolbar.
  • Click on “Download now”
  • Follow the prompts.

Now you are ready to search for a book in our catalog. Remember you can select the material type on our advanced search screen.

Once you have selected a title that you would like to checkout:

Click on the title of the book
Click on “Click here to view this resource online”.

Once the screen opens, if the book is able to be downloaded, you will see “Download this eBook (offline)”

MY EBSCOHOST

Once you have clicked on “Download this eBook” you will see a screen that asks you to sign in to your “My EBSCOhost” account. If you do not have a “My EBSCOhost” folder account, you can follow this video to create your account:

My EBSCOhost Folder Tutorial

(“My EBSCOhost Folder – Tutorial.” YouTube, YouTube, 24 May 2018, www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBbqqVqPQvE.)

Select the checkout period in days from the dropdown menu

Click on Checkout & Download

Click on Open to access your book

Use the arrows on the bottom right of the page to navigate through the pages.

Your book will now stay checked out in your folder if you are using your personal computer. It will be in your reader if you are using a mobile device.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Young Library at 474-3240.

Project Gutenberg is a library of over 60,000 free eBooks. Choose among free epub and Kindle eBooks, download them or read them online. You will find the world's great literature here, with focus on older works for which U.S. copyright has expired. Thousands of volunteers digitized and diligently proofread the eBooks, for enjoyment and education.

Looking for something to read? Project Gutenberg eBooks are mostly older literary works. Most were published before 1924, with some published in the decades after. Use one of the Search methods on this page, or try using the Bookshelves to browse by genre, age group, and topic.

Using Librivox to find free audiobooks of classic books

Librivox.org is a site of free audiobooks that are available in the public domain.  This means that they are not under copyright restrictions.

If you use material from a book in Librivox, you must create a citation for it.  While it is free to read, it is not your original work, therefore, it must be cited.

Classic books can be difficult to read and listening to a book may be more helpful.

Librivox audiobooks are read by real people.  They are all volunteers.  This is not a computer voice.

Librivox does have an app available to use.  You can download the app even to your phone.

Librivox books can be downloaded using the app so you are not streaming the content.

Below you will find a few helpful hints in using Librivox.

To find a book:

  1. Go to librivox.org.
  2. Click on “Catalog” in the light blue box that says “Listen”.
  3. Type in the title or author of your book in the search box at the top right of your screen.
  4. Look for the following on your result screen:
    1. Check for the Language. (See the screen shot below.)

  1. Look for the type of reading that works best for you.
    1. Collaborative – several people read a chapter in the book
    2. Solo – 1 person reads all of the chapters
    3. Dramatic – a different person reads each character’s part
