Kentucky Christian University's Young Library Great River Road Virtual Vacation

Welcome to Tennessee!  The next stop on our Great River Road Virtual Vacation.  Tennessee is known as the Volunteer State because of its high number of volunteers during the War of 1812, specifically at the Battle of New Orleans.  Tennessee is also bordered by 8 other states.  Along the River Road, you will see rural scenic landscapes as well as cities such as Memphis with a unique music culture.  Click on the Welcome photograph below to find out more about all of the sites along the Great River Road!

The Mississippi River Museum at Mud Island River Park in Memphis has a goal of "preserving and promoting the natural and cultural history of the Lower Mississippi River Valley". The museum is divided into 18 galleries, which display more than 5,000 Mississippi River-relevant historical artifacts altogether. Located just outside of the museum is a scale model of the river.  Click on the photo to take a tour of this museum! 

The C.H. Nash Museum at Chucalissa is located on and exhibits excavated materials of the Mississippian culture archaeological site known as Chucalissa which means "abandoned house" in Choctaw.  Chucalissa was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1994 due to its importance as one of the best-preserved and major prehistoric settlement sites in the region.  Click on the picture to take a tour of this site!
