Genoa National Fish Hatchery has been in existence since 1932. It is concerned with the recovery of endangered aquatic species. Current hatchery species include the Higgins eye pearly mussel, the winged mapleleaf mussel,sheepnose mussel, spectaclecase mussel, snuffbox mussel, lake sturgeon and coaster brook trout. It also works to provide fish for stocking to meet specific tribal fishery objectives. They raise more than 26 aquatic species which includes 40 million fish, eggs, and mussels to support the management, restoration and research objectives all across the country. Perrot State park is located where the Mississippi and the Trempealeau rivers meet. The park protects two State Natural Areas including Brady's Bluff Prairie and Trempealeau Mountain, a cone-shaped mountain surrounded by water. The Native Americans of the area traditionally considered the mountain sacred and used it as a landmark for meetings. Some earthwork mounds made by ancient Native American cultures are located in the park. Click on the picture of Trempealeau Mountain to see some of the highlights of this park.
In Wisconsin, nearly 21 million gallons of ice cream are consumed each year. That is a lot of ice cream! The first ice cream sundae was also created in Two Rivers, WI in 1881.
