GOVERNMENT DATABASES

Government Databases

Essential to your Diversity project is an analysis of the current research regarding the population of the area.  Demographic information is obtainable from Government databases.

  • A list of Government sites and databases is available on the Young Library database page.  Scroll down to the listing under Government.
  • Brief descriptions are provided for each below.

GOVERNMENT RESOURCES

FedSys

FedSys is part of the U.S. Government printing office.  This is a good source for Federal laws.  You can type a search term in the search box located in the center area of the screen.  Laws pertaining to the topic will appear on your screen and can be sorted by relevance as well as date.

FedStats

FedStats provides you with United States statistics.  The best way to use this site is to search for the federal agency that would have the statistics you need.  For example, all of you would probably want to access the National Center for Education Statistics.

Once you have clicked on an agency from the list on the right hand side of the screen, you can then search for information within that agency.  Take your time in this site.  It is layers of information.

Military and Government Collection

Military and Government Collection is an EBSCO database.  Great resource if you are looking on information on military veterans community services and education data.  It also has government documents available.  Statistics will be harder to locate but since the platform is familiar you will be able to manipulate it easily.

USA.gov

USA.gov is another US government web site.  It provides a great deal of information on different aspects of the United States.  What makes it unique is that it lists where citizens can receive assistance.

If you click on the link on the top below the "plus" sign that says "More Services" you will also find information on Benefits, Grants, and Loans.  As you work through your Diversity project, this will be helpful in developing a resource bank of sources to facilitate in understanding a culture.
