WHAT IS INTER LIBRARY LOAN ?

Inter Library Loan for Books

  • Young Library does not contain every book, video, audio file, etc. that has ever been printed.  For this reason, we have agreements with libraries around the world that allows us to request to borrow those items from that library.
  • If you are not finding sufficient resources for your topic, Inter Library Loan will be a good solution
  • Use the WorldCat catalog to locate these items in other libraries
  • Once you have selected a title that you would like to request, you will need to click on that title
  • Locate the word "Availability" at the top of the expanded information on your title.  Then click on the link that says "Borrow this item from another library"
  • You should see a blank Interlibrary Loan Request Form.  All boxes must be completed except for the "Comments" area.  This allows us to maintain contact with you if we have any questions.
    • Your Patron ID box must have the letters "kc" in front of your student ID number
    • Please follow the correct order for the "date needed" box - 4 digits for the year, 2 digits for the month, 2 digits for the day
    • In the "Date Needed" box please allow 10 days for the book request.  For example, if you were filling out the form on October 1, 2016 then your "Date Needed" should be 20161011 (October 11, 2016)
    • Click on "Submit" after completing the form.
  • Once the form is submitted, we will receive the information at Young Library.  Our Inter Library Loan department will locate other libraries where the title is available and request a loan for you.
  • The book will be shipped to Young Library and we will then ship the title on to you.  Please watch the due dates carefully and be sure to return the item with a shipping method that has a tracking system.
