Having a microwave in your dorm room is a great way to eat snacks and meals frugally. However, it can be difficult to find recipes that are the correct size and do not have a lot of ingredients or need a lot of preparations. So, where do you find recipes for microwaves for college students?
Look at DormRoomCook.com! This site is created and maintained by several former college and graduate students. They provide a short list of items that will help you cook in your room safely and legally. Their preparations are quick and simple so you do not need "kitchen space" to prepare the food. Best of all, their recipes use dollar signs ($) at the beginning of every recipe to give you an idea of how much you will be spending. I enjoyed their writing style and their variety of simple and quick to fix recipes. Only 5 recipes currently on their site take more than 15 minutes.
Just to test the recipes, I made their Microwave Creamy Tomato Soup. I already had all of the items that were needed to make the soup, but look in the column on the left for a local pricing list at Ralph's FoodFair to make one recipe. The flavor was terrific! I did add a tortilla that I rolled up with cheese and melted in the microwave. It was an easy version of grilled cheese to dip in the soup - kind of like a breadstick. Best of all, it really did only take 4 minutes!
