The holidays are coming and will be here before you know it!  With the end of the semester expenses, snack foods to make it through final exams, and travel money to get home, there is not a lot of cash left to purchase gifts for family members.  So what can you do?  Give the gift of time.

 

Most of us do not have a lot of extra time.  Your friends and family will know that you care about them when you take time out of your busy schedules to create something for them.  We often think of homemade items - making their favorite food, knitting or crocheting a scarf, even using a 3D printer to make a container to hold their keepsakes!  These are great ideas and can cost less than a purchased gift.

 

We have a suggestion for you that is completely free, except for your time!  Create a playlist for individual friends and family!  You can create a channel on YouTube and design lists for individuals.  You can create playlists of audiobooks, movies, music, or short videos.  Let's break that down.

  • Audiobooks - Think about genre specific books. Would they like a mystery playlist? Are they into Anime? Would they enjoy a list of Christmas books or romances?  
  • Movies - Think again about types of movies.  Would they like a list of action or adventure?  Do they love horror movies?  Do they prefer animated movies?
  • Music - Who is their favorite artist?  Do they love Rap music from the 80s? Do they like to mellow out with Jazz?  Do they love Heavy Metal that makes the walls shake when they play it loud?
  • Videos - Do they like to dance?  Do they like to start exercise programs in January?  Have they always wanted to learn how to paint?  Is there a new skill they are trying to learn? Are there virtual tours that they would enjoy taking?

So how do you get started?

Once you have your YouTube channel created, you can then start creating your playlists.  In case you need a little help, here are directions from Primal Video.  Just click on the image below to start the video!

Once you have created your playlists, all you have to do is share them with your friends and family.  You can even create free virtual cards using Canva (https://www.canva.com/) and include the link to the playlist.  This will even save you postage costs!
