Kentucky Christian University's Young Library Policies

An easy quick reference to library policies that are important to our users.

Kentucky Christian University's Young Library Public Access Computer Use Policy

The mission of KCU's Young Library is to support the curriculum of the University, to help users gain access to information in a variety of forms, to assess the information needs of its users, and to encourage the development of information literacy in support of life-long learning skills.

In order to help in fulfilling this mission, Young Library provides access to Internet resources to all KCU Young Library users.  The Internet is a valuable source of information on both local and national topics.  However, some information on the Internet may be inaccurate, dated, or offensive to some individuals.  We encourage all users of the internet to evaluate any site that is accessed for accuracy and appropriateness of use in this setting.

KCU's Young Library is unable to guarantee either the privacy or the confidentiality of anyone using the public access computers.  Images and information can be observed by other patrons and staff.  Websites may gather data for future use and security of data cannot be guaranteed.  Please be cautious about revealing information in this environment.  Be certain to log out of the computers in order to avoid revealing personal data or leaving an account open for others to use.

All Library computers are located in public areas and are shared by all Library users.  The Library tries to balance the rights of users to access resources with the rights of others to work in an environment that is free of disturbing sounds or visual images.  If what is listened to or viewed is contrary to the mission and values of KCU, library staff will intervene.  Please be considerate of others.

Community patrons are defined as all patrons who are not faculty, staff, students, or alumni or Kentucky Christian University.

All Community and Special Patrons are required to fill out a KCU Technology Visitor Sign-In form at the Circulation desk.  It must be completely filled out and signed in order to receive computing privileges.  This signature indicates that the visitor agrees to abide by the Public Access Computer Use Policy and to accept responsibility for the misuse of the computer.  If the visitor is not know to the staff a photo ID may be requested.

KCU's Young Library has a limited number of computers available for use.  KCU's Young Library reserves the right to limit the amount of time that patrons are using a computer.  KCU students completing curricular assignments are prioritized for computer usage.  All users must comply with applicable, federal, state, and local laws, including laws governing the transmission and dissemination of information while accessing the Internet, and with all Library policies and procedures.

Users may not:

  • Use the network to make unauthorized entry into other computational, information or communication services or resources
  • Distribute unsolicited advertising or mass email
  • Invade the privacy of others
  • Make any attempt to damage computer equipment or software
  • Engage in any activity that is harassing or defamatory
  • Use the internet for any illegal activity, including violation of copyright or other rights of third parties, or in a manner inconsistent with the KCU campus policies
  • Use inappropriate language for the campus environment while using the computers
  • Accessing adult content or material
  • Gambling
  • Or other situations deemed as contrary to the mission and values of the University

Violations may result in loss of access.  Unlawful activities will be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
