KCU/CCPL summer reading - North America

Mammoth Caves

National Parks are a great way to explore the nature around us.  The United States National Park Service is responsible for natural and cultural resources.  They preserve these resources and also provide information and education on these sites.  They have a wonderful website where you can learn about their sites and the Service.  Just go to NPS.gov Homepage (U.S. National Park Service) for more information!

Since we are exploring North America, we are going to visit two of the National Parks virtually.  The first one is close to home - Mammoth Caves!  Click on the entrance sign to the park and explore some of the caves from Rock the Park! Mammoth Caves is the longest cave system in the world.  Be sure to watch for Batman's Misery, Frozen Niagara, and 13 species of bats!

Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is located in Arizona and is a wonderful example of what erosion can accomplish. It is a long drive and even if we do not have the opportunity to go there this summer, virtual tours can give us a taste of this amazing site. The Grand Canyon National Park is located on ancestral homeland to 11 Tribal communities.  Click on the image below to watch Rock the Park as they hike the 24 miles from Rim to Rim of the canyon.  Then click on the video at the bottom to listen to an in depth view of the Grand Canyon from the National Park Service!
