Flatbreads exist in many cultures.  We see them all over North America, especially with the diverse melting pot of the United States.  The main ingredients in a flatbread are a grain flour, water, and salt.  So simple and so good!

In North America we have two flatbreads that originated here.  One is tortillas and the other is johnnycake.  Tortillas are believed to have originated in the Mayan culture which lived in what is now currently known as Mexico.  Johnnycakes are made out of cornmeal and are believed to have been created by Native Americans who grew a lot of corn!
